Invisible Institute

I began working with the Invisible Institute during my sophomore year of college, and the experience has confirmed my commitment to pursuing a career in journalism and media.

At the Institute, I attend weekly data practice sessions where staff sharpen their skills in R and Stata for investigative data analysis. I also have the privilege of sitting in on all-staff meetings, where we discuss current investigations, draft public statements—such as the organization’s response to public media defunding under the second Trump administration—and share project updates across teams.

My first major project was helping to create View From the Ground, a digital archive chronicling the Invisible Institute’s work since its origins in a vacant unit at Stateway Gardens public housing. Over several months, I organized and copyedited every article, newsletter, and memoir published since 2001. The site launched at the organization’s 10-year anniversary celebration and lives as a resource for learning and reflection.

While working on View From the Ground, I also contributed to other projects at the Invisible Institute. I helped collect data for an investigation into undercover police officers in Minnesota, scripted and filmed interviews for an upcoming video series, and created social media content—primarily for Instagram and TikTok—to support the organization’s public outreach.

Below is a selection of my work.
